Technology

Our experts use the latest technology including:

Digital Retinal Camera
  • Digital Retinal Photography for detecting diseases at the back of the eye.
  • Auto Refraction to give an initial assessment of any refractive errors that may be present.
  • Visual Fields Analysis for glaucoma management and detecting the presence of any neurologically related vision changes.
  • Corneal Topography to digitally map the critical corneal surface.

Our high-resolution Digital Retinal Camera allows us to take a photo of the back of your eye. This allows a more detailed and wider angled view than would normally be achieved with conventional observation methods.

The real value of retinal photography is that it provides a benchmark in the condition of your eye. This makes future changes easier to monitor. This technology is especially valuable for detecting slow moving pathological processes such as in glaucoma and macular degeneration. Retinal images such as this one are kept on file to monitor future changes allowing direct comparisions to be made from visit to visit.

Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyser II diagnostic tool

Visual field testing is an important tool in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. It is used to confirm if glaucoma has affected the visual function, evaluate severity and to monitor progression of the disease. The Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyser II is a diagnostic tool used to examine a client's visual field. It is the recognised standard of care for early diagnosis and management of ocular diseases resulting in visual field loss. In the early stages of Glaucoma, most people are unaware that they are developing the condition.

By enabling early detection of visual field defects, this highly detailed assessment method improves the success of treatment in Glaucoma to prevent eyesight loss.

Corneal topography digitally maps the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye. Since the cornea is normally responsible for some 70% of the eye's refractive power its topography can be of critical importance in determining the quality of vision.

Medmont E300 Corneal Topographer for corneal topography

Using the leading Medmont E300 Corneal Topographer, the computer generated digital 3D map is invaluable in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions; in planning refractive surgery such as LASIK and evaluation of its results; or in assessing the fit and performance of contact lenses, including our very popular Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT). Corneal Topography does not touch the eye and takes only seconds to perform.
